HP To Exit Hardware Business… Isn’t This Ironic?

I just wanted to point out that I find it extremely ironic that as Google presumably decides to enter the Hardware business (as a way to integrate hardware and software in their mobile products at first), HP is deciding to leave the hardware business due to it being extremely difficult. HP has been moderately successful in the hardware business too but they haven’t been as successful as of late, due to the emergence of the iPad and their failed attempt at competing against it with the HP TouchPad tablet.

The tablet market made 9.6 billion in 2010 and the iPad accounted for 9.56 billion, which means everyone else made 34 million. That’s just crazy. Even with this tablets are hurting the PC market with shipments declining in the first three months of 2011.  Either way, all this points to one thing: the hardware business is already tough as it is but trying to compete with Apple is a daunting task. With the brand loyalty, recognition and creative prowess of their products and hardware marketing, Google will definitely have its hands full.
